Pablo Shmerkin

Faculty

I obtained my undergraduate degree (Licenciatura) at the University of Buenos Aires and my PhD at the University of Washington, under the supervision of Boris Solomyak. I joined UBC as a professor in 2020.

My research centers around fractal geometry/geometric measure theory and its connections to other areas of mathematics, including ergodic theory, real and harmonic analysis, combinatorics, probability and number theory. I received the UMALCA prize in 2016 and the MCA prize in 2017.

My pronouns are he/him. Recognizing that many groups have historically faced (and continue to face) undeserved obstacles in the mathematical community, I'm interested in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (EDI) issues, and I am a member of the Mathematics Department's EDI committee.
