Leah Edelstein-Keshet

Leah Edelstein-Keshet obtained her PhD in Applied Mathematics from the Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel) in 1982. She is currently a Professor at the UBC Department of Mathematics.

Her research interests include mathematical cell biology, modeling cell motility and cell polarization, intracellular signaling, pattern formation, and models for swarming and social aggregation. Leah authored a popular textbook, Mathematical Models in Biology.

She has been awarded the Krieger-Nelson prize of the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS), the Research prize of the Canadian Applied and Industrial Mathematics Society (CAIMS), and the Arthur Winfree Research Prize of the Society for Mathematical Biology (SMB). She has been selected Fellow of SIAM and SMB.
